Report Card / Can Do Checklist

Overview:

  1. 1. The Phase 1 test can be administered as a pre-test at the beginning of the term to see where the students are at regarding the Essential Skills.

The students can celebrate their successes and the teacher can see where gaps are and what needs to be covered that term.  The Phase 1 test can be used as a pre-test for Phase 2 to determine if the Phase 2 students have mastered the necessary skills of Phase 1 to be successful and confident in a Phase 2 class.  The Phase 2 test can be used as a post-test for Phase 2 at the end of the term and can also serve as a pre-test for Phase 3.  The same structure applies for the CLB 1-4 tests.

  1. 2.The Report Card / ”Can do” checklist is a valuable addition to a learner’s portfolio.

Debriefing the contents/language/skills on the report card is instrumental in helping the learner speak to the skills they can do.  This language will demonstrate, in a job interview, the learner’s Essential Skills competencies.
